Alloy steel shows great corrosion resistance that is similar to standard austenitic grades. These are made for use in chromium carbide precipitation range between 427 deg C to 816 deg C; in this temperature unstable alloys are subjected to intergranular attacks. In the same temperature, the overall corrosion resistance of condensate pots is better than a standard grade. Additionally, these condensate pots perform somewhat well superior to standard grade in strong oxidizing conditions up to 816 deg C. these condensate pots can be exposed in the nitric solutions, dilute organic acids at moderate temperatures even in pure phosphoric acids at down temperatures and in dilute solutions at higher temperatures.
Alloy steel resist polythionic acid stress corrosion cracking. The condensate pots made by this alloy can be used in fluoride and chloride free caustic solutions at nominal temperatures. However, this alloy cannot perform in chloride containing environments even have small concentrations for example in sulfuric acid containing environments.
Alloy steel is not tougher than stainless steel grade. This alloy can make the same level of string chips that require slow speeds, work hardens, heavy feeds that reduce this alloy effectiveness.
This grade is weldable with all standard welding process even with the help of fusion and resistance methods; however, oxyacetylene welding is not recommended. These are weldable with or without filler materials.
The hot working temperature of alloy is between 1149 deg C to 1232 deg C is suggested for forging, hot work process, upsetting and more. This grade will not work at temperatures beneath 1700 deg F. after this operation, the material is must quenched with water or completely annealed after working to attain maximum corrosion resistance.
Despite the fact, this grade requires higher start-up forces than standard stainless steel. This grade is slightly ductile and tough and can be readily blanked, stamped, drawn and spun. Alloy steel is annealed in the temperature between 1010 deg C to 1093 deg C and quenched with water. This operation results in higher ductility, in order to achieve maximum corrosion resistance, settled annealing process. This alloy is not hardened by the heat treatment process, however high properties are obtained via a cold working process.
