Selecting good Air headers of good alloy material can be made by using the versatile material made headers. And the versatile material is Stainless Steel which is an iron alloy having slight amount of chromium present in it. The addition of chromium offers excellent resistance to corrosion and other good properties. There are some other good chemical elements added such as molybdenum, carbon, silicon and sulfur which gets added up and offers excellent resistive properties and improved mechanical properties. The Stainless Steel comes in various grades and the most widely used grade for manufacturing Air headers by the industries is SS 304H.
About the grade:
Alloy 304H which is a modified version of 304 is nickel chromium based austenitic SS that offers excellent properties and other specifications to the fabricated air headers. The high carbon content of the grade helps in offering excellent strength at high temperature and other good properties. The grade is widely economical and versatile resistance to corrosion alloy which stands out to serve its good properties to the products. Alloy 304H has improved general corrosion resistance similar to the 304. The grade can resist easily atmospheric corrosion and oxidizing environment. Because of its high carbon content presence, the grade is subjected to carbide precipitation in the highly heat affected zone of welding and fabricability.
The Stainless Steel 304H grade is highly non-magnetic in annealing conditions but can show up to magnetic property as well when performed various heat treatments methods. The grade becomes magnetic when subjected to cold working welding process. The SS 304H Instrument Air Header offers high tensile strength, great yield strength, excellent elongation and great creep and stress rupture properties. The SS 304H can moderately offer resistive property over organic and acetic environment. The presence of nickel in the alloy offers moderate resistance to reducing acids which includes phosphoric acid and other acidic environment.
As there is an increase in the amount of molybdenum in it, the grade can easily perform well in high level of chloride based fresh waters and marine applications. Also, the balanced chemical composition of the grade enables the product to perform well in severe environment.
